Designed by MUS Collective, Wave House is a luxurious design for a custom new home that speaks to the family’s love of the sea. This Australian beach house eludes convention, offering details synonymous with golden holiday moments.
Completed as part of our Design and Build process, the vision of Wave House was brought to life after completing our initial concept design meeting with architect MUS Collective and clients to develop schematic designs, taking into account the natural beauty and layout of the Mornington site, lifestyle, family and more. Once the initial design is drafted, we create an immersive 3D video and accompanying stills to facilitate envisaging your home at completion as you embark on the final phases of design.

Anchored in coastal culture, the front exterior showcases contemporary architectural fretwork and portholes synonymous with this beachside Hamptons aesthetic. From the moment you enter the space, you are enveloped by its resort-like connectivity. Surrounded by greenery, including inset planters to the exterior of the home, the façade remains calm and soft with an all-white palette. Traditional and contemporary elements offer a dialogue between the old and the new before merging to the rear of the house that offers a more contemporary feel as if it were its own resort. Boasting luxury in-ground pool, sweeping deck emulating that of a beachside promenade, the rear of Wave House offers a myriad of spaces for the young family to soak up the sun including cabana inspired pergola, and stone paving that opens to the creek for calming walks immersed in lush flora.

Light was a critical consideration to the design of the home. While the palette remains white, the combination of afternoon light fills the interiors with an afternoon glow, particularly striking on the sandstone wall and detailing around the gas fireplace. Offering nostalgia to holiday moments, Wave House was carefully designed to capture beachside sunsets and the bronzy gold it reflects.

Attention to detail is an often-used phrase, however, in this home, it’s completely justified. Distinct curvature inspired by the waves of the ocean can be seen throughout the entirety of the interiors. Textures through fluted glass, vertically grooved wall panelling, and subtle feature framing to the joinery doors offer continuity. Paired with natural materiality including white subtle marble and accents of sandstone cladding form a union of luxury finishes grounded in natural elements.

There are various subtle references to the sea such as green moss tiling to guest bathroom, brass whale hooks to the mud room, coral coloured tiling to kitchen splashbacks and ensuite, with bronze fixtures representing the ocean. Ensuring the home feels as close to the water as possible, step inside the kitchen to be greeted by island bench inspired by the curves and lines of whales and an integrated tropical aquarium inset to the joinery.
